ParticipantHi piston broke
I have recently overhauled the brakes on my 1954 Somerset to include new cylinders shoes pipes and hoses and master cylinder.
If memory serves me right there is no adjustment on the right and left cables from the expanders to the handbrake compensator.
The adjustment is made on the rod at the bottom of the lever which is actuated by the cable from the pistol grip handbrake.
I am in the uk Birmingham area.
Feel free to phone me, it may be clearer for me to to see what you have done because my Somerset is fitted with a 1959 Riley 1500 engine so my brakes may not be standard.
Feel free to ring. 07426887325

ParticipantI have an SU type pump fitted to my Somerset because i have a 1959 Riley engine in it which does not have provision for a mechanical lift pump.
Mine is mounted to the NS Bulkhead and appears to be OK.
If the location was good enough for a Morris Minor i should think its good enough for a Somerset. If the pump is pushing the fuel will be under pressure. if it pulls it will be under a negative pressure which means the fuel can vapour lock at a lower temp but as the fuel line under vacumn will be in cold air i don’t think it will be a problem for you.
The only reason i had an issue is because the Riley 1500 exhaust manifold runs close the metal fuel line which caused it to vapour lock so i had to put a heat shield in place. all ok nowRegards

ParticipantHi
This obviously is a fuel related problem, is the carb brand new?
Either way I would suggest that you need to check the jets are clear.
The carb will need to be removed and the jets removed and blown through.
You should also blow through the cavitys and channels within the carb befor refitting the jets. Ther should be four jets to clean
When yo have it running does it accelerate as you open the throttle?
If you feel you are not confident to strip and reassemble and it is new it might be worth contacting who you obtained it from.
Hope this is of some use but it I I bit difficult being here in Birmingham.
Kind RegardsPaul Thompson

I have not removed mine but there are two small screws on the sides of the steering wheel boss I would try ro moving the and see if the assembly is released. I would suggest that you isolate the battery as the horn live is supplied to the horn push and is earthed via the switch.
Hope this is of some use to you

ParticipantI can measure my track rod which should give you some idea.

ParticipantTony. When you there is one inch difference are you measuring the distance between the front of the front wheels and the rear of the front wheels?
The only adjustment is carried out by the front track rod which links the steering arm on the o/s to the steering idler on the near side.
This track rod should have a left hand thread on one end and a right hand thread on the other therefore turning the tube should lengthen or shorten the track rod to enable you to obtain the correct toe in measurement.
You stated that you tried to adjust the cross tube without success, what do you mean?
You can give me a ring if you wish.
I am in the UK. West MidlandsRegards. Paul. Thompson
