ParticipantMany thanks for all the information, everything now back together and working! So pleased, but what a complicated/strange setup.

ParticipantManaged to dismantle everything, the ring with the raised “hump” on it had been put on 180. Degrees out! I now have self cancelling indicators. My next problem is that the three grub screws are so badly damaged I can’t screw them in far enough to hold the retaining ring in place. Does anyone know what thread they are, or even better has anyone got any good ones?

ParticipantMany thanks folks, just got to work out now why the indicators don’t cancel. I hate it when things don’t work.

ParticipantThanks for the information, I guess I’ll carry on driving it as it is.

ParticipantThat’s very interesting, I wonder if that diff was used in any other vehicles. Alternatively would the Oxford/Cambridge axle fit the somerset?

ParticipantThank you Pete JS, much appreciated. While I’m on is there another diff/axle that will fit the somerset. I have a 1622 motor and need to change the final drive ratio.

ParticipantI put taxi tyres with tubes on mine and they look good and it drives well.

ParticipantBack in the fifties there weren’t that many axle manufacturers, I would be surprised if there aren’t other Marques out there with the same axle. How I find out I don’t know!

ParticipantWhich ones would fit a 54 somerset? The healey ones or the mg ones? They look like a good solution.
