ParticipantThe dumb iron is definitely bent, as is the mounting bracket welded to the chassis. Compare it to the other bracket/dumb iron on the other side of the car. Looks though it has had a good thump there in the past. You will need a bit of heat to straighten the bracket; hopefully the chassis itself is not bent.

ParticipantThere is also a hardboard surround for rear window, covered in headlining material and 2 metal “finishers” either side of the mirror above the windscreen.
Bruce
ParticipantTry Graham Potts (Potts Parts). There is no metal surround for the rear window, just two “stays” welded to the roof to hold the rear hoop. You also will need the fixing clips for the hoops. The hoops should be colour coded as there all different shapes/lengths.

ParticipantHi. Will be difficult to do without any further evidence. You may be able to get registration details from the original county registration authority. Some area records have survived. Some even kept records of vthe old log books. but whether this will be enough for the DVLA is questionable. You used to be able to obtain stuff from DVLA via V666 form, but they now hide behind “data protection” and will not give previous owner details, unless you run a car clamping business!! Contact the club registrations officer. If you do decide to buy it, I would just apply for a new log book on the old reg number (Dont mention the “SV” number) and see what happens. Thoroughly search the vehicle for an old tax disk or something!
Best of luck

ParticipantWhen I fitted a new pump, I found I had to “prime” it to get the fuel to start to flow. I did this by undoing the line where it enters the pump from the tank, and then blowing into the tank. You need to block the breather for this to work. I you dont have enough “puff” an air line would work if used carefully, with a rag to block the rest of the filler neck. You only need a little pressure to start it to flow, then reconnect and use the hand prime lever.

ParticipantHi. Dont really understand why you are looking at the gearbox to sort ignition timing??
Easiest way is, if you have “converted” electronic points, is to replace them temporarily with conventional ones and then set timing as in the manual. If you actually have a fully electronic dizzy there should be a little led light on it that shows when it is set correctly. Hope this helps

ParticipantThese people can repair the gauge, https://www.speedograph-richfield.com/shop/instrument-repairs/capillary-gauges
or if yhou are handy, you can buy a cheap one of ebay and diy (videos on youtube) by freezing the ether in the bulb. I have successfully done this in the past.
Bruce
ParticipantCapillary should look like tis with the tube (with spring protection) going from the radiator to the gauge. (follows wiring loom through the bulkhead) If it is broken/missing then it wont work.
There is a guy who can recondition them somewhere.
An example (not Somerset)
Bruce
ParticipantHi. There is no electrical connection to thermostat bulb. The bulb has (or should have!) a capillary tube going direct to the gauge. Liquid in this tube vaporises with heat which directly operates the gauge. The red/white wire just goes to the dash light bulb that illuminates the gauges.

ParticipantI had one for a Somerset saloon done by these people and it was excellent. They advertise on Ebay. Collection/delivery not a problem; they arrange it.
