In my opinion it’s pointless obtaining a used 70 year old engine and expecting it to be useable . Unless you are extremely fortunate you will always end up disappointed. Especially if You buy something and fit it and then have to remove it again because it turns out to be worn out. You might as well rebuild what you have. All the parts can be found with a bit of searching.

First off thanks for the reply the Somerset I have, had no interior no engine no gearbox no wheels but it said please help me and rebuild me I am a sucker for a  sob story.so now my Somerset stopped crying and it’s smiling because it has an interior waiting to go in, it has a gearbox all new dual circuit braking system 5 wheels 1 obviously a spare.  and a 70 year old engine on the bench  stripped waiting  to be rebored new pistons cam bearings etc the ad I placed I thought I would inject a bit of humour, once again thanks for the reply it’s a shame people don’t use this site more

like the saying goes use it or lose it still looking for a  crank and fly wheel

You might find a serviceable flywheel and crank by asking Graham Potts, the Club’s recommended supplier of used spares. He has a lot of used Somerset parts.

It might also be worth advertising on the ‘Sales & Wanted’ page on the site – it gets more visitors than the forums.
