I think it’s 5.28:1 – but I’d have to check the workshop manual to be sure.

Thank you Pete JS, much appreciated. While I’m on is there another diff/axle that will fit the somerset. I have a 1622 motor and need to change the final drive ratio.

I’ve now looked it up, and confirmed that the Devon was 5.14, and the Somerset was 5.28.

The diff. from the A70 Hereford (4.12:1) has been used in other applications where the 1622cc engine was fitted – – they’re not easy to come by though.

That’s very interesting, I wonder if that diff was used in any other vehicles. Alternatively would the Oxford/Cambridge axle fit the somerset?

If you can e-mail me on pjhackney@optusnet.com.au I may be able to assist.

    Cheers-Peter.

Thanks for the information, I guess I’ll carry on driving it as it is.
