can someone please tell me how to get at the trafficator /horn switch. I’ve tried undoing the grub screws but it still does not want to come off. If I try to lever it any more I’m sure I’ll break the whole thing!

The trafficator switch has a long tube that goes all the way down the centre of the hollow steering column. The wiring goes down this tube.

Lay on your back at the front of the car and you will see a brass nut with the wires coming through. Undo this nut and it should all come free.

As stated above, you’l need to undo the nut at the end of the steering box. You will also have to cut through the ‘olive’ that sits behind the nut in order to withdraw the centre of the wheel complete with the stator tube.

You’ll need to find a replacement olive – try plumber’s merchants – as the olive is there to keep the oil in the steering box.

Many thanks folks, just got to work out now why the indicators don’t cancel. I hate it when things don’t work.

I would like to know how to fix the self cancelling too, my indicators work o.k but do not self cancel so i wired in warning buzzers-easy job.

Managed to dismantle everything, the ring with the raised “hump” on it had been put on 180. Degrees out! I now have self cancelling indicators. My next problem is that the three grub screws are so badly damaged I can’t screw them in far enough to hold the retaining ring in place. Does anyone know what thread they are, or even better has anyone got any good ones?

Many thanks for all the information, everything now back together and working! So pleased, but what a complicated/strange setup.
