    My somerset has started running badly and the exhaust sounds  “poppy ”

    the engine is nearly new and there is no overheating,waterloss or excess crankcase pressure.   If i take of the plug leads off 1 and 2 cylinder the engine stalls but if i take off the leads from 3 and 4 the engine still runs. There is plenty of compression and sparks and the tappets are adjusted correctly .

    is  this likely to be the gasket but if so why no overhating and water loss etc.
