    Hi All,
new member here, glad to join the club, just bought my first classic car road worthy Austin Somerset 1954 in very good road worthy condition, i have a few questins if people in the know can help,
1, is the steeing always heavy and should i checked the steering box to see if been overtightened and if so what can be done to rectify it, and best oil or greese for steering box.
    2. tyres to stay with inner tubes or go tubeless, any thoughts and info mine are 500/525-16 wheels.
    3. Can any one please tell me the part number or a alternative part, that fits the air cooler with wire mesh at one end, the part i need is the connector that fits inside the cooler and joins onto the zenith carb i might be wrong but do they call it a “top hat rubber”mount any advise as mine has completly split but i have the inner metal ring.
    hope anyone can help,
    kind regards

    Welcome to the Club!

1.Steering will be heavier that a modern car, most noticeable at low speed. Easiest way to check for stiffness is to jack the front end off the ground an check lock to lock for any binding. This could be caused by steering box, idler or even kingpins.Oil not grease in box and idler. It takes a bit of getting used to, dont try turning the steering wheel until you are actually moving and it wont feel as bad!

    2. You cannot use tubeless tyres on standard Somerset rims.

3.I think Longbridge Spares were investigating having some made. I just purchased a complete secondhand air cleaner with good rubber connector from Graham Potts (Potts Parts).

    Happy motoring!
