I have an A40 pickup. I have also acquired various original old handbooks for different years. The books all show a drawing of  the dash board with what appears to be a wood grain effect. The dash board is of course a steel pressing.

So my question is; we’re these vehicles actually originally finished with the wood grain effect finish?

My trucks dash board is painted body colour and I’ve never actually seen another in real life up close.

Hi I have 1954 Devon van my dash looks original in that it’s rusty in places

The main dash is black but the instrument panel is a dark brown colour with no attempt at wood grain

have read your rebuild on the occ site you mention a tow bar any chance of more info

tried signing up to the occ but get no reply. Cheers tom

Thanks for that Tom. Is your painted van black like the dashboard?

Regarding my tow bar. If you look on page 9 you can see some photos of it. It’s very simple. Just a 5 mm steel plate extension welded to the original truck rear bumper. Then drilled for the tow ball. I only tow a very light trailer and I don’t go very far when towing. It hasn’t fallen off yet.

Embarrassingly, when I first fitted it I made the extension plate too small so the ball was too high which meant I couldn’t get the spare wheel out.
