I know this subject has been raised many times, but does anyone have a definitive way of getting the cable adjustment spot on?

After a recent clutch change I am struggling to adjust the cable correctly. Worked fine before this. The workshop manual is pretty unhelpful suggesting you loosen the cable nut at the gearbox end, move the lever fully towards the rear of the car and then tighten cable nut. You can then get 3 and 4 and reverse where 2 should be! Moving the cable in tiny increments and you can get 1 and 2 with a bit of a struggle but you sometimes get reverse instead of 2 without pulling the gear selector end out.

There must have been an easy way to set this on the production line but it is probably lost in the depths of time. Unless anyone knows better??

    Hello Bruce,

There’s an article by the late Ray Dawes in CC186 that might be of help to you – I’m not sure to be honest. I’ll email you a copy shortly.
