The tyres on my Devon are very old 550×16 radials. Although there is a reasonable amount of tread left, theses tyres must be at least twenty years old.

Looking at what to replace them with, I am wondering if any owners have gone with Austone 175×16 taxi tyres and what their experience has been with them.

Classic car 176×16 radials are far too expensive for me at over £250 per tyre!

Hello  Clive, I have been running the Austone tyres or as I call them, taxi tyres for around ten years now on my devon pick up, very strong, very long lasting but poor grip in the wet, you can easily put the back end out on roundabouts and junctions if your not careful, Andrew

Hello Andrew, Thank you for your reply. I wonder if the Pick Up is lighter on the back end than the Devon saloon.

I gather  otherwise you are happy with them. I see on e-Bay they are being sold for £60.50 each, inc. P&P., so very reasonably priced.

Andrew,   My pick up is currently running on 5.00/5.25 x 16 Avon Tourists which are 145mm wide.  I can see see evidence of rubbing on my inner wings where they have touched on full lock .  The Austone taxi tyres are apparently around 40mm wider (185mm) .  Have you experienced any rubbing on your truck?

    Thanks, Mike
