Hi – Would anyone tell me if there is a core plug right at the back of the block or cylinder head. I have a slight leak of coolant from that area, but can’t get my hand round to feel fo it.

Hi, yes, there is one smaller core plug on the back. It is partially covered by the sheet metal between the engine block and the gearbox. At least on my Devon 1949. Last year I also changed the core plugs but I temporarily fixed this smaller one with epoxy because I didn’t want to remove the engine.

Thank you for your reply. After reading it, I removed the rubber gearbox cover and the sound insulation on the bulkhead and cut a slice out of the panel to expose the core plug.

It also had some epoxy on it which I removed, only to find the core plug was in excellent condition and shiny. So perhaps the engine had a small coolant leak from the rear of the cylinder head and was mistaken for the plug.

Anyway, looking on the bright side, I now have at least partial access to the core plug!
