Austin 8 – recommended engine oil?

Hi all, I have recently purchased a lovely restored Austin 8 which I’m slowly doing the basic servicing on.

When it comes to engine oil I read a lot of varying opinions.  I put Halfords 20W50 in my ’69 Morris Traveller but I read that’s not suitable for the older Austin 8.

What are your recommendations pls and any suggestions where I can buy it.

Whenever I’ve wanted to know the answer to this question for various old vehicles I’ve owned over the years, I’ve contacted the classic oil manufacturer  direct. Email or phone the technical department . They are always happy to help. They make the stuff so they know what is best. Make sure you tell them if you have fitted a non standard oil filter.
