Hello. I’m going through my 1952 Sports trying to get her back on the road. She was running beautifully before developing a water pump seal leak. I didn’t address that right away and now have a bit of rust on the timing chain cover. I figure now may be a good time to clean up the rest of the engine. This will be my first time ever pulling this motor so I ‘d like to ask, what needs to be done in preparation for removal?

    Thanks in advance – John

Buy an original Austin workshop “Service Manual”. They are usually available on eBay for less than £20 ( several on there now). They describe in full detail how to remove and work on the various components.

Hello. Just an update on the Sports. Pulled motor today, following the service manual instructions. Came out without much fuss. The transmission will come out tomorrow.

My flywheel shows some wear. Should I take it to a machine shop for some light grinding?

    Thanks in advance.

I would be advised by the machine shop. They might (but probably wont) prefer doing  it with the flywheel still attached to the cranshaft.
