Hi. There is no  electrical connection to thermostat bulb. The bulb has (or should have!) a capillary tube going direct to the gauge. Liquid in this tube vaporises with heat which directly operates the gauge. The red/white wire just goes to the dash light bulb that illuminates the gauges.
