I have an SU type pump fitted to my Somerset because i have a 1959 Riley engine in it which does not have provision for a mechanical lift pump.
Mine is mounted to the NS Bulkhead and appears to be OK.
If the location was good enough for a Morris Minor i should think its good enough for a Somerset.
If the pump is pushing the fuel will be under pressure. if it pulls it will be under a negative pressure which means the fuel can vapour lock at a lower temp but as the fuel line under vacumn will be in cold air i don’t think it will be a problem for you.
The only reason i had an issue is because the Riley 1500 exhaust manifold runs close the metal fuel line which caused it to vapour lock so i had to put a heat shield in place. all ok now
