I fitted a Luminition system about 10 years ago and it has performed faultlessly, unlike one of the cheap ones on fleabay that broke down on its first drive in another car! Some systems are only for positive earth. The points/condensers in our cars will always be a weak point; but when working well, I’ve never noticed any significant difference between the standard system and electronic ignition.

Hi Colin, Yes I have fitted electronic ignition to my A40 Sports Distributor. I have now covered over 12000 miles with it and it has been fantastic. One word of warning – there are companies out there who are selling “Bargain” inexpensive units which come built into and including the distributor and they say that one type will fit all – I prefer and paid extra for the unit from H&H ignition solutions of Brierley Hill who match their units to the original spec of the car. Prices are around £130 for a distributor ( Positive Earth) rebuild and unit which fits in place of the original back plate and is easily removable.

Let me know how you get on
    Regards
    Dave W
