so having got the indicators to cancel, the next job is to replace the choke cable. Before I go rip, s… and bust! Is there an easy way to get to the back of the choke, I can see the dash is double skinned, do I have to dismantle it just to access the back of the choke? The choke that is in now is a generic one and I now have the proper somerset one.

Yes you will unfortunately have to remove the Knobs and the front of the dash to remove the outer part of the cable. The inner could be removed by simply pulling it out. The Somerset one should be very stiff wire. Probably best not to lubricate it as it ideally needs to be stiff.  To get the knobs off heat them gently with a hair dryer to soften the black gunge which Lucas used to hold them in place then press the lock button on the underside whilst pulling at the same time. Be very careful.
